Holistic Development

At some point we’ve all seen kids who (often at a very young age) become focused on one particular activity – be it a sport, musical instrument, or something else.  A child demonstrates an apparently inordinate aptitude for something, and the parents begin investing the family’s time and resources in order to cultivate this gift.

Here’s an interesting column from Katy McLaughlin in The Wall Street Journal on one family’s refreshing decision to take a step back and consider their children’s total development and allow their kids to explore different interests – and place one talent in proper context.
